Christian Outdoor Recreation: Reporting on: a Few Bumps in the Road!

In 1980 we bought a new Pontiac phoenix that I had been babying mechanical wise every since we have had it. Over time though, I can honestly say I have worked on most every part of that car to keep it in as good a shape as I could to make it last, especially for the cost of another car now a-days! Along with that, the car had three different times of colliding with Deer! In the last 6 months though we decided it would be better to let it go! Not that we had the money for another one but because it needed another Transmission which would have been the fourth one, I would have put in! But I could not find another one around to buy! So I would be forced to take ours out and send it off first; so they could rebuild it and then send it back. So it could take several weeks to have it up and running again! That was why we decided to evaluate what other things should be fixed as well. One thing was the head liner, it had come loose again and I tried several things but I could not keep it from sagging. Another thing we had to consider is I had never replaced the brake lines and the car has over 200,000 miles. Yes, I could keep working on the car till the cows come home or until I get too old to able to do it. But another thing I had to address; was the mileage gotten for the cost of gas per gallon now! So it made sense to let go of it! I cared, but it was something mechanical and could be replaced. I have been thinking how the car story applies to its physical shape and how it affects our mental decision based on its well being. The same applies to a child getting some scrapes or bruises and or an occasional broken something but for the most part heals up and forgets about those times very fast. Yes there are some exceptions; but for the norm, as we get older there are some things that are far more devastating to us than physical. Now I don’t say that lightly, think for a few minutes about life’s potholes and what can come from them. One thing that has affected each of us back in the past and or now is not forgiving others! Remember we are all human and there is a saying that too error is human, that means we all need to forgive or we will continue to let things fester to the place where we will have problems and in the process possible explode and no one likes what can come from an explosion! There is also the other side where we go through life and continue to hit pot holes and are not able to pull out of them, thinking we are worthless and or no one cares and ends up doing something no likes to hear about! I know we can give all kind reasons why we won’t forgive others and have no intention of doing so! But do yourself a favor and think about the results that can take place physically, mentally and personally, if we don’t let go of these things as fast as possible trying to find a solution. This can affect every aspect of our lives and put us in a tailspin that we possibly may not pull out of and end up doing something that we may regret for the rest of our lives. For me there is only one solution to the problems that I have including forgiving others! I have found overtime that we in and of ourselves are not equipped to achieve that inner calmness, peace, or the satisfaction in life that we are all so desperately looking for. They come from one source only! The Creator of all things is the only one that has the answers we are so much in need of! That tells me then, to have a saneness of mind and heart, I must look to our God for the answers I don’t have! The way this comes about is confessing our sins that we have committed in the way we walked in this world, without looking to him to help us in all the hurts and the anguish we have experienced as well as the way we have hurt others along the way! This is the reason for all the hurts in our lives. The only solution is asking forgiven of our sins through the name of our Lord and Savior,( Jesus Christ , GOD’s only Son!) The only one who died for all of mankind that we may live a life worth the living; having possession of those attributes mentioned above! Remember this! GOD will not forgive our sins without a blood sacrifice: that sacrifice had to be holy and that is why GOD’S only SON came to earth in an earthy body and having not sinned; Died on the Cross for you and me! That we might have life and have it abundantly!

Christian Outdoor Recreation: Reporting on: Did your Children Mimic You?

Have you noticed how at a certain age your children start to mimic many of the things they have seen you do! It’s like they have a build in tape recorder; and when they see you dressing or just putting a hat on; you may see them trying to put something on their head to try to duplicate what they saw you do! If they see their Dad with their hat on backwards or sideways they definitely will try it some time. It’s the same way in seeing you in front of the mirror brushing your teeth; in time they will be willing to try it themselves. It’s amazing how they want to be able to do anything and everything they see you or their siblings do! Of course that carries over right into every age group’s thinking as to how great it would be to be able to go there and do that or wear expensive clothes like those we admire. Along with that let’s not forget the cars and homes that make for a beautiful life style! The same applies to our children’s listening abilities; if the parents or others around them are not careful with their choice of words, the recorder in a child will pick them up and duplicate them at a very young age; to the dismay of the parents and others around them. Point in fact, I and others have heard parents laugh at some of the coarse words that came from their young children, not even thinking about the problems they may have to deal with later on in not correcting them as soon as reasonably possible. Along with all that mentioned above, there are those lousy traits that we can pick up throughout life; such as lying, stealing, cheating and the list goes on. In most cases our children will pick these things up and run with them just like we, their parents have done unless we find the alternative path that can offer children as well as any adult a completely different way of looking at life.
In the same way children can pick up good traits such as praying to God, whom they know loves them, which in turn allows them to start learning how to give, rather than constantly feeling it’s all about me! For the adults, it’s realizing over time that seemingly, I can’t do one thing of myself and have it turn out completely in the way it needs to be done, without it affecting my relationship with my wife, children, friends or others around me in some adverse way! Our only solution to this and all other problems that crop up in our lives is looking to the One who gave us life for the answers we so desperately need! This causes us to ask, what separates us from God? 1. Scripture, says that sin separates us from Him! 2. Describes Jesus as the one that is needed to straighten out the wreck in our lives! 3. Makes reference to Jesus as being the Word! 4. Tells us that we need to have our sins forgiven through the name of Jesus Christ! 5. He is known as the Son of God so, we need to ask Him to come into our hearts and give us a new beginning; to live life in the way He wants to us to live it; by looking to Him to help us in every aspect of life and He definitely will do this if you become one of his children! See footnotes below:

1. (Romans 3:23-24) 2. (John 17:3) 3. (John 1: 1-4) 4. (Acts: 4:12) 5. (Romans 8:1)

Christian Outdoor Recreation: Reporting on: Resolution Solution

but I got to thinking about the father that I just mentioned and how he was willing to do anything necessary even to the peril of his own life, that his son, which was buried in the rubble could be found alive and recognize that his father was willing to give up everything, even his life to keep the promise of that commitment: I will be here!
I know of only one other person that endured far more than any man ever could, here on this earth. He willingly gave his life for all of mankind and He did it willingly, that we all may have life that goes far beyond the broken and beat up lives each of us has experienced, if we are very old at all. Our Creator GOD wants each of us to recognize that we in and of our selves cannot do anything, that could help us to achieve that inter calmness, peace and satisfaction; that our lives are crying out for, inside. Instead we keep right on running away from our Creator. This is called Sin! Ask yourselves this question! Which makes more sense? Allowing the one who Created us to fill this vessel we call me, with the things that GOD knows would be best for us or me walking away saying I will do it my way and allow our lives to be in shambles; with always hoping that tomorrow will be better and at the end asking ourselves, if it was worth it! This why GOD’S only Son JESUS went to the Cross, so that any time in a person’s life, when they feel they have had enough of this World yanking and pulling them around, they could ask for the forgiveness of their sins in the name of (JESUS CHRIST) the (One who died on the Cross for our sins) and in doing that, allows us to becomes a child of GOD. He in turn will enable us to start learning and growing in ways we could never do on our own!

In a panic mode the father found his way back to the school. When he got there he found that the school was now just a pile of rubble and all that remained was “Chaos everywhere.” people were screaming, Sirens sounded along with Firemen working fervently to find some alive. With the father in a panic, he asks people that he recognized, if they had seen his little boy? No they responded. He then went into a different area and asks again “if anyone had seen his little boy.” Each one replied no, they had not seen his little boy. By this time, fear and desperation had set in along with a rush of energy that caused the father to break through the barrier the firemen had set up and start to dig. As he dug and threw debre he called out his son’s name. He dug 12 hours calling out to his little boy, then 24 with no one else there helping him in that area. As he approached the 30th hour, he had dug so much that the skin on his hands was tearing away from the bone. His hands were covered in blood. Still he continued to dig and call out his little boy’s name. Finally, sometime after the 30th hour, he dug, and out popped a little hand. He called out. “Son is that you?” “It’s me.” The father called out once again “Son is that you?” “Daddy, Yes.” He frantically dug some more. He had dug his son out along with several other classmates. His son and several other students were saved that day outside of San Francisco by one person having the resolve to keep their Promise of commitment: I know many others were saved that day by the emergency departments and I praise GOD for each one of these Departments and Organizations that are set up to do these things. But there are also those that do it out of empathy for what others are going through as well!

Christian Outdoor Recreation: Reporting on: #1 What makes a True Resolution?

You know a great many people make resolutions throughout the year, with the thought I will try to do it! Of course this does not come with a promise or a commitment to keep it; if it did, a lot of things would probably be bettered, especially in a man’s outlook on life! I know that sometimes even promises are broken for a variety of reasons with many arising that just cannot be helped no matter how much you want to keep it! But those who can; keep that promise right to the end!
Here is a story of one, that did not give up on his promise! One day a father was taking his son to school. He had done this for several weeks now, taking the place of his wife which normally took him. The father was not always around for he had to travel great distances at times in the work he was involved in, so it was very important to the father to spend time with him when he could. On this particular morning they were standing a ways from the entrance of the school door. His son asks him, are you going to pick me up after school today? The father replied, “Yes I’ll definitely be here as usual. Have a good day son.” The boy replied, “Ok daddy, see you.” The 7 yr old started into the line where his friends were, with his daddy looking on. Suddenly he turned around towards his dad and come running back. He looked up into his daddy’s eyes and said, “Daddy. Are you sure you’ll be here to pick me up?” The dad replied, “Absolutely son. I’ve picked you up every day when I told you I would. I wouldn’t miss it. I’ll be here, I love you. Have a good day, ok.” The son looked up and said, ok. The son then took one step and turned back around and went over and put his arms around his father’s leg and again wanting to be reassured, so he ask him, are you sure you’ll be here? The dad though it was strange, his son had never responded this way before and asked, “are you ok? Is something wrong?” The son looked up and softly said, “No daddy. I’m ok.” His dad said, “Well, have a good day. I’ll see you after school.” The boy ran off and into the line and disappeared into the school. The father didn’t think much of it and headed for his car and drove off. About 15 minutes after leaving the school, a disaster happened. There was an earth quake that shook the ground violently causing many Buildings to collapse.

Christian Outdoor Recreation: Reporting on: A Weekend of Reflection:

There are times when you just want to get away from the everyday routine to reflect on what is going on in your life. A Weekend Christian retreat may be the answer to help you to get to know yourself better and know your capacity for life. You’ll have the chance to contemplate how and where you belong in your family, circle of friends and society. Your weekends usually include a set schedule of activities including devotional time and listening to different speakers. Even with set schedules, you will have time for personal reflection and or for taking a walk to enjoy the beauty of the grounds and just to enjoy the nature around you. So, if you are struggling with yourself or with the world around you. Look for a retreat geared toward you. There are many retreats for singles, married couples, women or family that cover many different topics. Take a weekend for yourself or for the family and get away from your everyday troubles. You’ll get a little exercise perhaps, good food, fellowship and time to iron out issues in your heart and mind. In the end you may find that you walk away with a new perspective and understanding of God’s design for wholeness, based on biblical Christian principles. Who knows, you may even meet someone special or some new lifelong friends.

Joining together for a common cause:

Christian Outdoor Recreation: Reporting on: Joining together for a common cause:

We live in a day where there are so many things drawing our attention that we feel we don’t have the time to get involved much, even if it is in helping others!
Last Sunday, several bodies of believers in Christ in our small community went out together just as we have been doing for the last several years. Our goal was to reach out and help others in our community that can’t do things for themselves or those that can’t afford projects that need to be done; like building wheel chairs ramps, painting, plumbing, electrical, cleaning up yards, cutting up downed trees and even helping the city with some of its projects. Some took care of the children while others worked at the schools, Library, ball parks, fair grounds, senior citizens compounds, youth facility as well as the grave yard. Others filled sandbags for people being flooded out because of the river flowing over its bank. Over all it lifted up a lot of peoples spirits in what it accomplished! Not only in the hearts of those that participated in doing it but also those on the receiving end. After we were finished, everyone went back to church for a pot luck where we got to look at the pitchers that was taken of each of us doing a job.
Many people look for ways they can do these things on somewhat of a steady basis for seniors and or those that are sick or injured. Others have a need of learning what it is like to help others and the satisfaction that is had in doing so and especially in having the right attitude in what you are doing it for. Let me say this, if the pioneers had not helped others along the way in settling this country they would not have got it done!

Christian Outdoor Recreation: Reporting on: Shots of the Past # 4

Up on moving his family to Nyssa Oregon in Oct. of 1937, my Grandfather decided to buy another plot of land there! So any free time they had after work, as well as after services on Sunday’s; they worked on building a 1 1/2 story home at a cost of $200. Once in a great while though, they would decide take a break and go fishing and swimming in the river. When the construction was completed on the sugar beet factory in 1939, they sold the house they had built there and moved back to the land he had purchased in Wilder Idaho in 1936. He then built a cement block home which He and my Grandmother lived in for most of their lives. After finishing the house, he immediately started building a church straight across the street on the land he owned and got a quarter of it done by the winter of 1939. In the spring of 1940, my Grandfather and his two boys worked on the church till it was finished. Right after that my Dad and my Uncle were drafted into the Army. My Grandfather pastored 33 yrs. in that church and it continued to grow every year. He was a circuit rider preacher at heart though, for one month out of many of those years he still went into other states to share Christ with others. During the time my Grandfather was out of the pulpit, His oldest son would fill the position and overtime became an Evangelist and He also went into other states to share the Word! My Grandfather never did ask for a salary as he always seemed to have work in the construction business. While my dad was in the army, my mother worked in the ship yards in Portland Oregon. Then after the war, my Mom and Dad went back to Wilder Idaho and built a house on the land he purchased from my Grandfather. For several years after that all of their children lived around them!

Christian Outdoor Recreation: Reporting on: Shots of the Past # 2

In 1936 my grandfather and two of his sons, one of which was my father; came from Oklahoma to Wilder Idaho after they were told they could make a better wage there working at construction. I found out just a couple of years back though, if my dad and his brother had not gotten out of Oklahoma when they did, they would have been spending some time in the calaboose for stealing chickens and other things! The Sheriff there had given them an ultimatum either they Leave or else. When they arrived in Wilder Idaho, my Grandfather’s past followed right along with him as He had been a circuit rider preacher in Oklahoma and other states for 10 years prior to moving to Idaho. This worked out right well as most churches at that time could not afford a full time minister. He would work at a job 6 days and pay his own way to minister in churches sometimes quite a distance away. They in turn would feed him and put him up for the night. After working several months and saving up, my Grandfather ask his oldest son to return to Oklahoma and move every one and their belongings out to Wilder Idaho. They did not arrive till October and ended with all 7 of them wintering in a tent, 10’x12’ long on fairly large plot of land my Grandfather had purchased. It was for them and their sons and daughters to built on when they got married so they could all live fairly close if they wanted too.

Raising Children Alone

Christian Outdoor Recreation: Reporting on: Raising Children Alone

A single mom once explained the loneliness and stress faced by those who are raising their children alone. She said she was looking out her window one rainy day and saw a drama unfolding right before her eyes. A mother bird was sitting on a nest of hatchling just a short distance from the window with the rain pouring down. The mother had covered all her chicks the best she could with her wings and body. Then In the next few moments it then started to hail and the bird raised her beak up to try to divert the hail stones from directly hitting her while she was protecting her young. All of the young were saved through this act of protection!
What an illustration of the problems of being a single parent, with the unrelenting requirements of raising their children alone. Requiring moms or dads to work to earn a living, cook, clean, help with homework, discipline and take care of any illnesses or hurts they may have. Then figure out how to make time for their own personal and spiritual needs! You really look at what is required and this has got to be the roughest assignment on earth! That is for sure, they need continued encouragement and prayers to help them through it!
